Ontario’s first reported human case of West Nile virus this summer has surfaced in Simcoe-Muskoka, north of Toronto.
The virus is carried by mosquitoes, which thrive in warm, wet weather.
Public Health Ontario expert Dr. Curtis Russell says the chances of getting seriously ill from West Nile are low, but the danger is real.
