Weyerhaeuser Fined

The Ministry of Labour has fined Weyerhaeuser 100-thousand dollars for a workplace injury at its Dryden mill.
A student was seriously hurt in the summer of 2000 while sweeping sawdust near a conveyor system when his broom got caught in the pulley.
His left arm was cut when it was pulled along with the broom into the mechanical belt.
The Ministry of Labour says Weyerhaeuser pleaded guilty, as an employer, to failing to provide information, instruction and supervision to the injured worker on how to safely sweep in the area near the pulley.
This was a violation of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
