The day Dryden has been preparing for since July 15 is almost here.
As of tomorrow, the Weyerhaeuser Sawmill in Dryden is shutting down triggering a series of layoffs at the entire facility.
Initially, 70 people will be out of work but it could be several months according to Company Officials before the final totals are known.
Some Sawmill staff may be eligible to bump into the Pulp and Paper operations but with the re-training required, the balance of the layoffs announced in the Summer may not take effect until late this year or early next year.
To date, some 70 employees have opted for enhanced early retirement packages, further reducing the actual number to be laid off.
