Weyerhaeuser is claiming a victory of sorts in the ongoing Softwood Lumber dispute.
A NAFTA Panel has ruled U.S. Lumber producers aren’t hurt by Canadian exports, which was the basis behind devastating American duties.
Company Spokesperson Dave Larson says while it’s a significant decision, he notes he’s seen it before.
Larson says there is little chance they will stop threatening Canadian exports and he predicts a long hard battle ahead.
The United States has 21 days to appeal, something Larson fully expects will happen.
Larson says the only solution is a negotiated settlement between lumber producers and governments on both sides of the border.
