A new environmental study concludes that too much logging is destroying
the vast Whiskey Jack forest in Northwestern Ontario.
The report by the Wildlands League warns of wood shortages within 20
years, an end to area caribou, and increasing conflict with First Nations.
The report singles out Abitibi-Consolidated, which is licensed by the
Ontario government to log the area near the Manitoba border.
The League says the approved logging levels are too high and will
provide short-term gain but cause long-term destruction.
