The Manitoba Government is pledging to increase the size of Whiteshell Provincial Park beside the Ontario border.
Conservation minister Gord McIntosh says it’s a commitment to preserving environmentally sensitive areas of the province.
He says it will better protect the water that flows into Lake Winnipeg as well as the boreal forest.
McIntosh says under new regulations passed by the government, more of Whiteshell will be protected from any mining or forestry activity.
McIntosh says they’ve added on a fairly large addition to the park and also increased the protected area in the park.
He adds the park will be expanding mostly to the northwest by about 3,000 hectares.
