Winnipeg River Fishing Trip Costs Four Anglers

Two men from Western Canada and two residents of Kenora have been hit with a $2,250 fine following a July 2017 fishing trip on the Winnipeg River.

The four were stopped by a conservation officer with six walleye of a prohibited size.

The group claimed to be fishing under Metis harvesting rights, but didn’t assert that right and pleaded guilty.

Court heard that Ken Loranger of Crofton, British Columbia and Shawn Benson of Calgary both didn’t have a fishing licence.

All four were also charged with having open liquor in their boat.
