The century old Hoshizaki House in Dryden has been torn down.
The demolition occurred Wednesday to kick-start construction of a new Women’s Emergency Shelter.
Tom Wood is the Chair of the Board of Directors and he says the Hoshizaki family was on-hand for the start of the demolition and everyone is excited about the future.
He says the new state-of-the-art building will be able to serve more women and children.
The Federal government provided $3.1-million for the work, however the project was selected by the province.
Wood says they will continue to serve clients while construction of a new shelter takes place.
Wood says if a woman and their child is in need, they will accommodate them at their Second Stage facility.
He notes they have the space and will look after all clients.
Construction of the new facility will begin once the rubble is cleared.
Wood notes they hope to have the building up and enclosed before snow.
