Wynne Government Promising To Reduce Auto Insurance Rates

The provincial government says it’s looking at different ways of bringing down auto insurance rates.

Finance Minister Charles Sousa has introduced a number of measures including the creation of a Serious Fraud Office.

Sousa says the new office will be up and running early in the new year.

He notes that fraud costs the system $1.6-billion a year and prosecuting the “bad players” can help save the auto insurance industry money.

Sousa says in addition to tackling fraud, they will also be providing improved services to victims of car crashes.

However, Conservative critic Vic Fedeli says the Wynne Liberals promised five years ago to reduce premiums and has failed.

“In 2013…they made a grandiose promise to cut rates 15% by 2015.

But four years later, they aren’t even half way there”.
