The NDP is complaining the provinical government is ignoring the plight of the Grassy Narrows First Nation.
NDP critic Peter Tabuns says last week’s budget doesn’t contain any reference to the clean-up of mercury from the English-Wabigoon River System.
However, Minister of the Environment and Climate Change, Glen Murray says the government is committed to not only funding scientific research but also remediation.
“I want to be very clear. There, right now, is dedicated in the budget the initial 2.1 million dollars to complete the science work that we committed to do to determine that.”
Murray says clean-up costs could exceed well over 84 million dollars.
