Work continues in the Ignace area by the Nuclear Waste Management Organization as the community is one of the final two in the site selection process.
South Bruce in Southern Ontario is the other community as geological surveys continue along with creating partnerships.
They are continuing in Ignace by drilling a fourth borehole and study their findings.
Vice-President of Site Selection Ben Belfadhel says keeping communities updated is important as they want to continue their work in an area where people understand the process and are interested in being updated.
Belfadhel also says they are also working with leadership in the community and forming partnerships so everything goes as smoothly as possible.
He addressed delegates attending the Kenora District Municipal Association Conference in Sioux Lookout on Friday.
