1st Week Challenge Underway To Encourage Smokers To Butt Out

An extra incentive to quit smoking is being offered by the Canadian Cancer Society.

The “1st week challenge” is underway and if you sign up you have a chance to win $500 a month if you quit smoking for the first week of each month.

There will be 12 opportunities to win.

Catherine Kiewning is the Youth Engagement Coordinator for the Northwestern Health Unit.

Kiewning says this is a great way to improve the health of individuals.

She notes smoking related illnesses are the number one preventable cause of death and disease in Ontario, with 13,000 deaths in this province alone.

Kiewning adds if you are successful for the first week, you’re nine times more likely to quit for good.

To register for the initiative visit www.firstweekchallengecontest.ca or call 1-877-513-5333

Every registrant will receive a $10 coupon toward the purchase of Nicoderm or Nicorette.
