2014 Election Vote By Mail; Tabulators Gone

Dryden Council is not making any major changes to the 2014 municipal election.
The City will implement the traditional vote by mail format this year, but will eliminate the use of tabulators to count the votes.
Acting Clerk Debra Kincaid says the move is being made as a cost saving measure, noting the cost to use tabulators has gone up about $6,000 since the 2010 vote.
Dryden will use volunteers to count the votes by hand and Kincaid isn’t anticipaing any problems.
Kincaid says she did explore the option of going to internet and telephone voting, however decided not to proceed due to the current financial situation in Dryden and time constraints.
Kincaid says she will be pursing that option for the 2018 election.
Voter turnout for the 2010 election was just over 61%.
