All indicators point to a very good year for tourism in northwestern Ontario.
Gerry Cariou is the Executive Director of the Sunset Country Travel Association and he says 2018 was definitely a big turn-around from last year.
Cariou says the U.S. economy is the biggest factor for tourism in the region, and if the American economy is roaring, that’s good news for local outfitters.
He also credits a low Canadian dollar.
Cariou says a very warm summer didn’t actually play much of a factor in a hike in tourist numbers, because most of the resort bookings were made in the winter.
