Local MP Promotes “Needed” Mental Health Plan

The federal Conservatives have come out with a national plan for Mental Health.

Kenora MP Eric Melillo says the plan contains a number of planks.

“Boosting funding to the provinces for mental health care, working with employers to create incentives for them to provide coverage as well and also working to create a nation-wide three-digit suicide prevention hotline,” outlines Melillo.

“Overall, I believe we have to do much more to ensure Canadians have the support they need. I think our plan for creating this mental health action plan is obviously a positive step that is going to be something that is going to benefit many Canadians.”

Melillo with COVID-19 having a big impact on the mental health of Canadians, a national strategy is needed now more than ever.

He stresses both levels of government have a roll to play and mental health is something that everyone must work together on.

The Conservative MP is also raising alarm bells over a Liberal Bill giving the government power to regulate the online speech of Canadians.

Melillo calls it an “unprecedented assault on free speech”

The Kenora MP says he’s also focusing his attending on standing up for law-abiding firearms owners.
