No Surprise. May Was A Wet One This Year!

The temperatures last month were about normal for this time of year, but we had a lot more rain than usual.

Environment Canada reports, on average, the Kenora District recorded 156 millimetres of rain, compared to the average of 63.

Senior Climatologist David Phillips says this is really the continuation of the weather we’ve seen all year.

“You take a look at the Spring period, which we describe as March, April, May, precipitation was almost two-and-a-quarter times what you normally would get in the northwest. And that’s the same pattern we saw in the first two months of the year.”

Phillips adds the number of days with rain was certainly up and the days of heavy rain, over 10 millimetres, were also higher with about five.

He says the average is two.

In terms of temperature, the average was 11 degrees, a shade cooler than the normal of 11.8.
