Additional Housing Units Needed Within District

A Consultant’s report on Social Housing Needs in the Kenora District suggests new housing units are needed in Kenora, Dryden and Red Lake.
Peder Olson says the three communities are dealing with significant waiting lists.
District Services Board Chair Rory McMillan says the spaces are needed but cautions they have to review all options before spending capital funds.
McMillan says they need to assess the vacancy rates of the non-profit housing corporations and suggests partnerships may be available.
The report also urges the Board to take a close look at demand before considering building new units in smaller communities like Sioux Narrows, Ignace and Pickle Lake.
