The Ministry of Natural Resources is conducting aerial surveys of moose herds in 9 wildlife management units in Northwestern Ontario this winter.
Spokesperson Jolanta Kowalski says the units include those with increasing, stable and decreasing moose populations.
Kowalski says the survey will help the MNR determine the moose population and how it will impact the distribution of hunting tags.
Kowalski adds a number of factors are used to determine what management units will be monitored including the time from the last survey as well as the estimated population condition.
She notes there are roughly 46,000 moose in hunting areas in northwestern Ontario right now.
Two units are being monitored in the Dryden area.
