The Childrens Services Ministry of Alberta is looking into the events leading up to the deaths of twin infant girls in a Thunder Bay motel.
The girls’ grandfather has been charged with 2-counts of criminal negligence after the twin three-month-old girls were found dead on Sunday.
Alberta’s Childrens Services Minister says the province was awarded emergency custody of the girls last month.
The province was about to ask for temporary guardianship when the courts awarded custody to the grandfather this month.
Police say he was taking them back to his home in Southern Ontario.
56-year-old Jerome Kerrigan made a brief court appearance in Thunder Bay yesterday and is expected to reappear today.
