Another Poor Turn-Out for Budget Meeting

Quality of life was the main topic of discussion at a City of Dryden 2012 Budget meeting Tuesday night.
The few that were in attendance wanted the Municipality to ensure its attractable to visitors and businesses.
Dennis Lawrynuik says he wants the City to become more fiscally responsible and more business friendly.
Lawrynuik says the City should know about the costs of a project before moving forward.
Carlos Raposo stated he wanted to see more attention spent on sports tourism.
Raposo says the Soccer Club has been waiting for a new multi-use complex as well as an enhanced drainage system.
He notes that was promised about 4-years ago and stresses the City is missing out on a major opportunity.
Another major concern was ensuring the Dryden information signs on the east and west entrance-ways were reinvented and kept up to date.
Mayor Craig Nuttall says the feedback was beneficial.
Nuttall admits it will be a challenge to balance priorities and a growing debt, noting they are at the mercy of the Provincial Government right now.
Nuttall says Dryden is facing a $35-million debt.
Other issues discussed were more geared towards the Province, including an impending Dryden By-Pass, crumbling infrastructure and hydro rates.
