April 1st Marks New Forest Fire Season

A new forest fire season officially begins Saturday.

Ministry of Natural Resources Information Officer Debbie MacLean says just because its Spring, doesn’t mean fires aren’t risky.

MacLean says when the snow leaves and before we get a nice “green up”, there is a high risk period.

She notes there is no concern right now, but people should be following all burning guidelines.

MacLean says that if you’re planning on starting a fire, you should have it during the evening.

She adds you should never leave a fire unattended and ensure it’s out upon leaving.
