A coalition consisting of the Ontario and Manitoba Government’s and five First Nations is taking another shot at getting special recognition for the boreal forest.
They have been attempting to get UNESCO recognition for several years now and there most recent attempt was turned down by the International World Heritage Committee in 2013.
The group is expected to submit a revised proposal this week but it likely won’t be heard until next year.
The area in question ranges more than 33-thousand square kilometres across northwestern Ontario and northern Manitoba and is almost half the size of New Brunswick.
