Bad News in Kenora

More bad news for Northwestern Ontario and the forest industry.
Abitibi-Consolidated has completed an in-depth review of the newsprint mill in Kenora and has decided to close 1 of 2 remaining paper machines.
The #9 machine will be permanently closed as of October and
Abitibi says it will also be idling the remaining paper machine
indefinitely.
Company CEO John Weaver says they are continuing to talk with the
Provincial Government about ways of reducing operating costs.
He says assuming a deal can be reached, they will look at restructuring
the newsprint mill under a 1-paper machine scenario.
Officials estimate anywhere from 150 to 200 job losses with the closure.
