The Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office is concerned this holiday season
could be one of the worst yet for fire-related fatalities.
In the past month, 11-fire fatalities have been reported across the
province, including one in Thunder Bay.
Spokesperson Bev Gilbert says it’s especially important for holiday
partygoers to abstain from cooking after a night of celebrating.
Gilbert adds homeowners should always stay in the kitchen when
something is cooking on the stove.
He notes candles also pose a risk, with many people placing them
near wreaths and flammable tablecloths.
