Beware of Phantom Power

Hydro One Spokesperson Nancy Shaddick says it’s also known as standby power, which is energy consumption that is being drawn by household gadgets that are switched off, but still plugged in.
The most effective way to prevent standby power is to unplug devices when they’re not in use.
Shaddick recommends plugging in all your electronic devices into one power bar, that way you are able to just shut it off.
If you are purchasing any major appliances or electronics, Shaddick encourages you to look for the energy star label, which means they are the most energy efficient products.
