The Ontario Public Service Employees Union is blaming the College Employer Council for the government’s plans to introduce back to work legislation to end the five week long faculty strike.
It says the Council made no effort to move towards a settlement when they met with Premier Wynne Thursday, even when the union offered to send the issue of academic freedom to arbitration.
President Warren ‘Smokey’ Thomas says if there is going to be back to work legislation, it should include measures to disband the Council.
Thomas calls the Council “a private club” that’s accountable to no one.
But the Council retorts that it was OPSEU that refused to accept arbitration, instead demanding $5,000 a member to return to work.
