Bob Nault Address Hydro And 2019 Budget

The federal government continues to search for ways to get communities off diesel generators.

Pikangikum was the most recent community to connect to the regional hydro grid.

Kenora MP Bob Nault says their goal is to connect 17 more Far North First Nations, but adds for another seven, that won’t be possible.

Nault says that’s because they are either too small, people don’t live there year-round or they are so far up, they can’t connect them.

For those communities, Nault says they are looking at other options including solar projects.

Nault adds the federal government is spending $1.6-billion to connect remote Indigenous communities to the hydro grid.

Meantime, the Liberal member is providing a sneak peak into what we can expect from the federal government’s 2019 budget.

Nault says part of the focus will be addressing the skilled trades shortage across Canada.

He says just because you are in your 40’s or 50’s doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be able to re-train for a new job, if there is work available.
