Both Levels Of Government Invest In Transportation Study For Ring Of Fire

A step forward for the development of the Ring of Fire in northern Ontario.
Ontario’s Minister of Northern Development and Mines Michael Gravelle and Canada’s Natural Resources Minister Greg Rickford announced $785,000 in funding for the project over the weekend.
Rickford says the money will help Webequie, Summer Beaver, Landsdowne House and Fort Hope to complete a transportation corridor study.
He stresses the study will examine an east-west corridor that would come from the north and end in Pickle Lake.
The study is expected to take one year to complete and will examine the benefits of developing an all-season transportation corridor connecting aboriginal communities with existing roadways.
This is welcome news for municipal leaders who have been pushing for an east-west transportation corridor.
Rickford adds the study will help open up the north on top of moving the mining development forward.
