Canada is cut in half.
OPP say Highway 11-17 is closed indefinitely at the Nipigon River Bridge, after the newly constructed structure rose nearly two feet on each end, Sunday afternoon.
Nipigon Mayor Richard Harvey says the old bridge has already been dismantled, severing the only link connecting Eastern and Western Canada.
Harvey says the town is taking every precaution to make sure emergency vehicles are able to serve both sides of the bridge, adding its community centre is open to travellers for at least the next 24 hours.
A spokesperson for Michael Gravelle’s office says engineering crews are on scene accessing the damage.
