Call Made To Repeal Far North Act

nother call is being made to scrap the Far North Act.
Nishnawbe-Aski Nation Grand Chief Harvey Yesno says the legislation is too restrictive and limits opportunities for development.
Yesno calls it an economic and resource development killer.
He calls the Act “a protection” measure.
However, Natural Resources Minister David Orazietti says 30 first nations communities in the region have already developed land use plans under the Far North Act, and feels it’s a useful tool.
Orazietti says it helps resolve potential conflicts between mining and forestry companies and first nation communities.
