Dogs may no longer be able to run loose in the City of Dryden.
Staff are recommending that all dogs be required to be on a leash, no longer than two metres.
The move is being made to restrict dogs from running at large and to ensure a safe environment for both people and animals.
Animal Control Officer Cody Fedorchuk says currently there are a number of grey areas and this change will make it easier on enforcement efforts.
Fedorchuk says warnings would be issued to start and the goal is to target problem dogs.
The new law could come into effect on January 1st, however Council has yet to approve the change.
Staff are also looking at the possibility of creating an Off-Leash Dog Park.
At the same time, the City is looking at easing restrictions on the number of dogs you can keep in your home.
Currently you are allowed to keep only two canines in your residence.
Staff are recommending a limit of no more than five dogs, but are open to suggestions from Council.
Another idea presented is no limit, with licence fees going up with the number of dogs you have in your possession.
Cody Fedorchuk has suggested the change, noting he has encountered a number people who have taken in more dogs due to a death in the family or a child moving home.
