A well known child welfare advocate suggests governments may have to invest more than what would normally be expected so First Nations students can catch up.
Testifying at the Thunder Bay inquest into the deaths of seven aboriginal youth, Cindy Blackstock said the extra funding would be necessary to achieve equality with what students get in urban centres.
Blackstock says the goal should be for First Nations youth to have the same opportunities other children get.
She testified how education in remote communities is underfunded, to the point where fundraising is necessary to help pay for some necessities.
