Canada’s Governor General has wrapped up a whirlwind tour of Sioux Lookout.
David Johnston started the day Wednesday with a meeting with Mayor and Council.
He then participated in an education round-table with education leaders, where transportation and aboriginal assistance dominated discussions.
Johnston toured the Meno-Ya-Win Health Centre and took part in talks with local First Nations leaders and health professionals to discuss health care and mental health issues.
Johnston ended the day by lacing up the skates and hitting the ice with those involved with the Hockey Canada Skills program.
He commented the groundbreaking program is a great way to keep kids interested in education.
David’s spouse, Sharon Johnston, met with members of the Equay-wuk Women’s Group, where poverty and a lack of jobs for women in northern Ontario were among the issues brought up.
