CKDR Listeners Remember Stompin’ Tom

The death of Canadian music legend Stompin’ Tom Conners is being felt across the country as well as right here at home.
Connors died yesterday of natural causes at the age of 77.
CKDR listeners have been sharing their memories of Stompin’ Tom with us all morning.
Dryden’s Doug Bergman says he was a tremendous musician.
Bergman adds he will always remember the plywood board that the musician used.
He notes that board was needed because Connors always put a hole through the stage or the carpet when he was stomping along with one of his songs.
Bergman says he remembered the plywood board was auctioned off during a Stompin’ Tom concert at the old Dryden Arena back in the 1970’s.
He describes Connors a true Canadian and added everyone should know the words to the Hockey Song.
Dryden High School Music Teacher Ryan Graham says Stompin’ Tom is one of the last true Canadian writers.
Graham says he was all about writing music about the people and he wrote about things that actually happened.
He was able to relate to people with his music and charisma and did it in a very personal way.
Graham adds he often wrote about great historical events and echoed comments already stated that he was a true Canadian.
He says he will be telling his students that Stompin’ Tom is someone they can inspire to learn from.
Several people are sharing their memories and favourite songs today on the CKDR Facebook page and we encourage you to do the same.
