Coalition Goes After MPAC

The City of Dryden is forming a coalition with Thunder Bay, Espanola and Fort Frances to fight the recent Municipal Property Assessment Corporation mill assessments.
Dryden Mayor Craig Nuttall says they are trying to arrange a meeting with the incoming Premier.
He adds if they can’t meet with Kathleen Wynne, they will meet with the opposition.
He says they pay M-PAC $120,000 a year to do their job, and believes they aren’t doing their job in this case.
Nuttall notes other communities are suffering and Espanola is even looking at a %50 increase in taxes.
He says northern communities can’t afford to cover the shortfall left by the dramatic drop in assessments.
Members of each community will attend the Ontario Good Roads conference in late February.
