The Canadian Wilderness Protection Agency says not enough is being done to protect the woodland caribou population in Canada’s Boreal Forest.
Executive Director Eric Hebert Daley says forestry and mining companies need to be more proactive to protect the population.
Daley notes by protecting the caribou habitat, you end up protecting other species of animals.
The group says the federal government wants every province to have its own recovery plan in place for woodland caribou by 2017.
Daley says Manitoba has been the most proactive on this front and has announced new protected areas.
