December is a time for giving back, and according to CanadaHelps.org, each year 10% of donations occur in the last week of the month.
Malcolm Burrows is with Scotiabank and he says 6% of donations are made from December 31st through to the tax deadline.
Burrows says charitable donations are a great way for Canadians to lower their tax bill while helping others.
Burrows says by making a donation, you are eligible for federal and provincial tax credits with combined incentives of up to 54%
Canada Revenue Agency indicates that only 23% of Canadians claim their donations, leaving over $2-billion in annual donations not reported.
