Bad news for local communities hoping to see an immediate break on policing costs.
It appears new OPP policing contracts won’t be in place for many communities in the province.
The contracts under a new costing formula were to kick in January 1st.
But for about 150 communities, including many in northwestern Ontario, they won’t be completed in time.
Officials say the OPP’s policing bureau is now talking with the government about options that could include extending existing contracts until new ones are in place.
