Dryden High School is responding to a recent report on CKDR about the need for large amounts of trades workers.
The Northwest Training and Adjustment Board this week announced that the Kenora District needs nearly 3,300 workers by 2022, including 1,700 skilled trades workers alone.
DHS Instructor Dave Darling says they are offering the “Specialist High Skills” major program, which focuses on construction and transportation.
Darling says there are a number of opportunities after high school.
Those who want to get into trades can get involved in construction and carpentry, and students who choose the college route have the options of technician and architecture.
Darling notes that students who want to move onto university can enroll in engineering.
The high skills program is offered at all high schools across Ontario, but Darling says that each school takes a different approach.
He says the school in Red Lake is more focused on the mining sector
