It appears 100-years of service is coming to an end for Dryden Telephone and Mobility.
The City has agreed in principle to sell landline and internet service to Bell Aliant and the mobility side to Tbaytel.
City Manager Joe van Koeverden stresses this is not a done deal.
All three parties still need to approve it.
The City will be seeking input at a public meeting next Thursday at 7 o’clock at the Dryden Centre.
More details of the deal will be released at that time.
Council will hold a vote on October 3rd.
The purchase price for landline and internet is $4.5-million, while figures for mobility aren’t being released.
Van Koeverden says the City is working with Bell and Tbaytel on a human resources plan and notes they will know more in the next two weeks.
Van Koeverden says there will probably be some job losses.
Tbayel is confirming an offer to purchase Dryden Mobility.
Director of Corporate Relations Barry Streib says the company is not responding to the deal as its still needs to be approved by all three parties involved.
Streib says they are waiting for a vote by Council and the results of a public meeting.
In a news release, Tbaytel President Don Campbell says they will provide customers with features that they didn’t previously have access to and will ensure a seamless transition.
Bell Aliant says in a news release that this is a small one-time opportunity that makes competitive and financial sense.
The company adds they will bring modern, reliable and affordable telecom services to Dryden.
