This is National Forest Week, with activities being held across the region.
Julie Edwards is Chair of the Lake of the Woods Section of the Canadian Institute of Forestry and she was a guest on the CKDR Morning Show Monday.
Edwards says the goal is to educate local residents on the importance of forestry and promoting competent practices within actual forestry professionals.
She adds the week is aimed at promoting Canada’s forest heritage and to raise awareness about the valuable and renewable resource.
Edwards stresses forests are fundamental to our economy, culture, traditions, history and the future of our country.
To mark the occasion, there will be a free yoga event Monday in Sioux Lookout at 6:30pm at Cedar Bay and Tuesday in Dryden at Sandy Beach at 5:00pm.
