The Northern Ontario School of Medicine is celebrating 10 years of operation.
The celebration consisted of a barbecue at the Dryden Regional Health Centre Tuesday and a walk through at the Laura Howe Marsh.
Recruitment and Fundraising Coordinator Chuck Schmitt says the school has played a major role in physician recruitment.
Schmitt says medical students are receiving training in local communities and they are staying to practice in the north.
He notes Dryden has benefited from the program with a number of recruits calling the City home.
Schmitt adds Dryden is a great place to live and learn for medical students.
Meantime, Founding Dean Roger Strasser says it’s been a great ride so far and is proud he’s been a part of making it a reality.
Strasser says the success of the school can be attributed to the participation of communities across Northern Ontario.
He says the school started as a dream and has now become a leader for training and physician recruitment.
