Dryden Council is going to have to take a serious look at the future of the Government Dock.
Manager of Public Works Blake Poole has issued a warning of deteriorating conditions and significant repairs needed.
Poole says right now they are recommending remedial repairs, but notes other options should be considered.
The cost of the repairs is pegged at over $387,000 and Poole suggests they would have to be made within the next couple of years.
He stresses Council may want to look at other options including downsizing the dock, changing its orientation, looking at alternate configurations or finding other alternate solutions.
A recent consultants report recommended the City look at the long term objectives with the users of the dock before committing significant funding towards rehabilitation.
Poole notes right now the dock should be safe for use for next summer but points out wind, cold weather and ice all play a part in the health of the popular structure.
Acting Mayor Martin MacKinnon says one option Council should look at is moving towards a smaller dock with more landing ability.
