Dryden Council Decides On OPP Costing Study

In an anti-climatic decision, Dryden Council wasted little time Thursday to vote unanimously in favour of proceeding with an OPP costing study.

Council stressed they must do their due dilengence and find out the true costs of switching to the Provincial Police.

The entire process is expected to last twelve to eighteen months, with plenty of opportunity to provide input.

Council says members of the Dryden Police do an amazing job and are an important part of the community but note a study is needed to lay a 20-year debate finally to rest.

A committee will be established consisting of Chief Administrative Officer Ernie Remillard, two Councillors, Dryden Police Chief Doug Palson and one member of the Police Services Board.

Remillard doesn’t anticipate a major financial impact of a study.

He notes there will be staff time investment involved and the committee will determine the best course of action to proceed.

The Police Services Board has promised its full cooperation with the study.

CKDR News will have more reaction during the Friday morning News.
