Dryden Police Addressing Human Trafficking With ‘Project Courage’

The Dryden Police Service is presenting ‘Project Courage’ Tuesday and Wednesday, a Human Trafficking and Awareness Conference for northern Ontario.

The gathering is being funded by the Ministry of Attorney General and is aimed at creating a community and regional plan to combat what police call a serious and heinous crime.

It has brought together more than 80 people representing police and front-line service providers as well as nine expert speakers.

Inspector Ann Tkachyk says the two days will focus on training, public awareness and the identity of human trafficking victims.

Tkachyk says communities need to work together to provide a solid foundation to those who are coerced, manipulated and exploited to the have the courage to come forward to seek help and justice.

She notes a lot of people aren’t aware of the signs and identifiers of human trafficking victims, noting most cases aren’t properly reported.

The conference is being held at the Centre.
