Dryden’s Financial Situation Becomes Even Worse

Dryden might be in more trouble then originally thought.
City Manager Joe van Koeverden says due to some new expenses, the city now has a deficit of about 750-thousand-dollars, up from the previously stated 522-thousand.
Van Koeverden says unless some sort of savings can be found this week, they will continue to recommend a 5 to 7.5 percent increase in taxes.
The major expense is potential overage on the management contract fee due to the longer term of the construction for the sewage treatment plant.
City managers will be meeting throughout the week, and van Koeverden has advised them to see if they can trim anywhere from 3 to 5 percent of their budgets.
In addition, staff is looking at eliminating non essential travel and training as a cost saving measure.
Van Koeverden notes many of the smaller budgets are at a high risk level, which means they may not be able to meet those budgets or offer all of the services that are promised.
He is hoping that by Wednesday, staff will be able to come back with a best case scenario.
