NDP Leader Howard Hampton says money made from industries in Northern
Ontario should stay in the region.
The Kenora-Rainy River MPP has unveiled his ‘Due North’ election plan.
Hampton says the current government is funnelling money from the Region through taxes and fees.
He notes proceeds from the mining profits tax, crown
timber charge and water rental fees could result in an extra $400-million a year for the North.
Hampton would like resource revenue go towards
municipalities hit hard by mill closures, first nations and economic
development.
