Electricity rates will jump slightly on May 1, but
there will be an extra two hours of the lowest off-peak rate each weeknight.
The Ontario Energy Board sets electricity rates twice yearly for homes and small businesses on time-of-use pricing and those paying flat rates depending on amount used.
Rates will go up by 0.8 cents a kilowatt hour for all time
periods starting May 1, which is also when the lowest off-peak rate will start at 7 p.m. weekday evenings instead of 9 p.m.
The energy board estimates the average household on time-of-use pricing will see its electricity bill jump less than $4 per month.
Rates for people not on time-of-use are up 0.4 cents to 6.8 cents for the first 600 kilowatt hours each month, and up 0.5 cents to 7.9 cents for everything above 600 kWh.
People on the tiered pricing scheme can expect a $6.12 increase in their monthly bill.
