The Dryden GM Ice Dogs honoured their top players Thursday night in an emotional Awards banquet.
Third year veteran Woody Galbraith was among the big winners claiming the CKDR Community Service Award and the Coach’s Award.
The team also unveiled a new trophy in honour of the late Jim Wright, the “Jimmy Wright Memorial Trophy” as Fan Favourite.
Galbraith was the first ever recipient of the trophy.
The 20-year-old from Duchess, Alberta says it was awesome to end-off three years like this, stressing he couldn’t do it without his teammates.
Galbraith says this years banquet was the best one yet and he couldn’t be more thankful for everything.
He says he couldn’t ask for more, noting he has been able to win two Bill Salonen Cups.
Galbraith says the only thing missing is a trip to the Royal Bank Cup, something he can accomplish next week.
Meantime, two graduating members of the Ice Dogs received $500 bursaries for their future education yesterday.
Dr. Adam Moir made the presentation to Jacen Bracko and Woody Galbraith.
Moir says Dryden Minor Hockey has been able to hand out $2,000 in bursaries, noting he will match any donation made to help boost the program.
In an emotional speech, 20-year-old Kris Hamlin took time to thank the organization, Coach Kurt Walsten and President Mike Sveinson for giving him a chance to play for a title.
The native of Thunder Bay ended his address with a special presentation to Sveinson.
