Environmental regs needed for new mines

New mines being built in Ontario need tougher and more stringent environmental assessments.

That’s the feeling of a number of environmental groups who have banded together to file a complaint against the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines.

Anna Baggio is a spokesperson for the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society and says they expect to hear back from the province within two months.

N002 Q: …60 days. (15 secs.)

Baggio says current environmental regulations for mines are too lax and need to take into consideration animal populations like caribou, first nation communities and
sensitive wilderness areas.
